The superstar who wrote and performed a string of hit songs in the 1980s in the duo Wham! then
expanded his influence as a solo act with a combination of hit songs and frank sexual imagery, and he scoring several number one singles and albums around the world in the process.

Michael may be remembered best — at this time of year, particularly — as the singer of one of the most iconic and best-loved Christmas songs:
    Wham's "Last Christmas."

His longtime manager Michael Lippman spoke that Michael died of heart failure "in bed, lying peacefully.

It is with great sadness that we can confirm our beloved son, brother and friend George passed away peacefully at home over the Christmas period," his publicist said in a statement
The family would ask that their privacy be respected at this difficult and emotional time. There will be no further comment at this stage."

Outside of Michael's home, fans gathered Monday to lay flowers and candles in his honor. Singers shared their condolences and memories of him.

Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou born in June 25, 1963 in London to Greek Cypriot immigrant parents in a flat above a north London laundrette, Michael once played music on the London underground train system before finding fame with Wham!, he was one of the most successful pop duos ever, ahead even of Simon & Garfunkel, with singles like “"Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go", “"Careless Whisper", "“Last Christmas" and "“The Edge of Heaven".

Michael has sold more than 80 million records worldwide in a career spanning four decades, but his
